HILLVIEW ACRES WOMEN'S AUXILIARY

www.helphillview.org
The Hillview Acres Women's Auxiliary plans and hosts various fundraisers and charitable events for the kids at Hillview Acres Children's Home. The volunteer organization draws its membership from an older and less internet-savvy generation, which meant their site needed to be easy to navigate. After experimenting a bit I finally settled on the current design: a single-page format with clearly separated sections and distinct headers. I recently added a PHP/Javascript photo gallery to the site. The Auxiliary has been very happy with the design.

ZELDA DAILY

www.aarondgordon.com/zelda
Zelda Daily was going to be a blog focused on Nintendo's Legend of Zelda franchise. I wanted visitors to understand immediately that they were at a blog - as opposed to a larger information site - while maintaining a distinct fantasy flavor. I opted for the standard blogging design with some unique flourishes to keep it from feeling sterile. Ultimately, other and more creative projects presented themselves and the site, while designed, was never started.

OCEAN WAVES DEMO

Download Executable
This executable uses various programming techniques and art assets to depict a sailboat caught in an ocean gale. The demo originally began as a simple test to determine how viable ocean water was in the Game Maker environment; before long it had swelled into a test not only of the Game Maker Language but of my own artistic and technical abilities. The end product is quite the display and I'm very happy with the personal growth I got out of the experience.

CONTRAPTION MENU

Download Executable
Contraption was a game being designed and programmed by my very close friend Austin Thresher. The premise of the game: build a needlessly elaborate death device to overcome a seemingly endless onslaught of gelatinous, marble-shaped creatures. The design called for a cartoony art style and off-the-wall humor, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to help. While the game was unfortunately never completed some great stuff came out of it, this [non-functioning] menu easily being the best. The music was produced by Austin Thresher.
